I’m totally with you in trying to distinguish between “legalism and healthy discipline,” as you put it. Divorce has always been a difficult one for me because I grew up surrounded by Christians teaching “don’t ever do it” as law, but somehow everyone was still getting divorced…

We obviously need morals/rules/boundaries/guidelines. But when those become more important than God himself I think we’re missing the boat.

The older I get and the more I experience (the more I screw up), the more I keep seeing God’s single motivation in everything he’s ever done is love.

God sent Jesus to die because he loved us, not because he hated sin. He wasn’t motivated by his disdain for something, but by his love for something.
